Just a couple of weeks to go before 'Slumdog Millionaire' makes it big on Oscars night and the world waits with bated breath to see if the British maker of an Indian-themed film can do what he has done so far-Pull off magnificent wins and earn accolades from the world over.
Did I say the world? Well, perhaps not the entire world. There are still some who have caught on to the fanciful and currently fashionable stance of trashing the movie and labeling it a lot of things, mostly undesirable adjectives.
Just read the opinion of filmmaker Priyadarshan and you will wonder two things:
One.How can a person who has never made a movie on this genre feel qualified to comment so irascibly?
Two. More importantly, why can some people never feel happy at another's success, especially when the success is from within the same field, in this case, directing?
In my interaction with people I have come across many different types of individuals. And while I respect the differences that make each person unique, I also expect that they leave a tiny part of themselves open to change, criticism and self-exploration.
The moment we close ourselves to interaction and competition, we open ourselves up to hurt, anger and a lot of misplaced annoyance.
My take: Let people do what they do. If you have something to say, say it nicely. Being rude doesn't make you right. It just makes the other person look better.
